It’s important to keep your weighing equipment working properly. Because they’re a common feature in modern businesses, weight scales are often taken for granted. Having your scale calibrated on a regular basis helps to ensure that it’s accurate and avoids malfunctions that could impede the course of your business.
The weight of products you’re selling and the readings on the scales should be identical. This is, in fact, a legal matter. If you use a scale to buy or sell products in Canada, then it must be certified by an accredited service provider such as Ancoma Scales. In some industries, it’s mandatory that scales be re-certified on a regular basis.
In August 2014, Measurement Canada introduced the mandatory inspection and certification of weighing devices in the following industry sectors: dairy, retail food, retail petroleum, grain and field crops, fishing, forestry, mining and downstream petroleum. If scales are being used in trade in these industry sectors, they must be re-certified at regular intervals. More information on this can be found at www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/mc-mc.nsf/eng/lm04707.html or by contacting Ancoma Scales at 1-800-661-2408.
Recommended inspection frequencies
For other industries where weighing devices are used in trade measurement, Measurement Canada has created a list of recommended inspection frequencies. These industries include: livestock and poultry, food and beverages, chemical products, textiles, fruits and vegetables, metal scrap, transportation, and waste collection and disposal. More information on this recommendation can be found at www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/mc-mc.nsf/eng/lm04564.html or by contacting Ancoma Scales at 1-800-661-2408.
Making sure that your scales are properly calibrated and certified isn’t just a legal matter; it’s also a matter of reputation. If you aren’t delivering the promised product, your clients may not be forgiving, even if it was an honest mistake. It only takes one big blunder to have clients and potential clients question your reputation, so why take the risk?
Scales that are accurate and precise will help your business’ efficiency. You have schedules and delivery deadlines to meet. You need to trust your equipment to work quickly and correctly every time, otherwise, costly and time-consuming errors could occur. Keeping your scales properly calibrated is essential to your business’ productivity.
